One unique tool we use is called a hydroxyl generator.  It picks up water vapor from the air, which will pull that through a fan with lighting which splits the molecules and deodorizing them.  This not only allows people to safely work in the area, but it will help provide the best long-term results along with other equipment to safely treat the area.

We also use a Serum System, which not only wipes out mold, but help deodorize the area as well.  The equipment and our sound approach to fires depends on the type of fire, for example, whether it's protein-based or oil-based. 

As a rule of thumb, white smoke is generally protein-based fires, such as cooking fires, etc.  Whereas black smoke is normally caused by oil-based fires ( such as carpets, paint, plastics, polyester, etc.).
